Genialists’ Club (English translation)
A contemporary heroic epic.

Once upon a time there was a woman called Caroline Suburg who was called Lilli. Yes, it all happened here in Estonia! She wanted women to have more rights so that Estonians can be prouder of themselves and for the world to be a kinder place. But others didn’t understand what she was saying and why – if you can see that something is wrong, then just go and...yes. She did great things and moved mountains. She read a lot of books and supported
culture. She always had time for others, she was interested in education, she cared about a lot people. “If you behave well then you can go to Lilli Suborg’s school!“ She wasn’t average, she had a unique charm and a good reason to make some noise, but people must’ve forgotten about her when the history was being written down. But if you don’t know the old
stories, you can’t see far. Let’s remind ourselves and others who this old Estonian woman was who was born at a time when “old woman“ wasn’t an insult and Estonians didn’t have any rights at all. Why? Because language is our strongest muscle – it grounds and destroys us. And then we won’t forget.

“Lilli“ is a verse performance about a chapter of the Estonian awakening period that hasn’t been told before. Lilli Suburg’s life and development is unravelled on the stage through performances and music. Lilli was our first women’s rights activist, female editor in chief, female writer, philosopher and the founder of an Estonian school. The story gives the
audience a chance to ask important questions about the values that are still relevant in our society. The format – verse performance with a musical background – is a modern take on epic folk poetry, an ancient form of storytelling.

A modern heroic epic of a powerful woman. Compulsory for people who make the world better regardless of their age!
